50 lakh deaths due to Corona in India? Shocking claim in US Report

Even though there have been more than four lakh deaths in India according to government figures, the US report has claimed 10 times more than this. In the report of the American research group, it has been claimed that in the last 17 months, there have been about 5 million deaths due to corona in India. This estimate has been expressed in the study of an American institution.

The Washington-based Center for Global Development has done this study, and the organization has collected data from January 2020 to June 2021. According to him, the situation created by Corona is the biggest human tragedy after India’s independence and partition. In this study, the Delta variant of Corona has been described as a major threat to the world.

Washington’s Center for Global Development based this study on serological studies, house hold surveys, official data from civic bodies at the state level, and international assessments. In this report released on Tuesday, three estimates of deaths in India have been given. The number of deaths in all is said to be many times higher than the government data (4.18 lakh). With this, three estimates of deaths from Corona have been made.

1-Even in the estimate with the lowest number of deaths, this number is 34 lakhs. It has been prepared on the basis of registration taken from 7 states.

2-In the second calculation, the international estimate of the Age-Specific Infection Fatality Rate (IFR) has been applied. According to this, the number of deaths is around 40 lakh.

3-The third estimate is based on the Consumer Pyramid Household Survey. In this 49 lakh deaths have been said.

The report, authored by Abhishek Anand, Justin Sandifer, and Arvind Subramanian, says it is important to understand and link to data-based estimates. It will not be counted for now but for the future as well. It has also been said in the report that it can also be wrong to tell the number of deaths due to corona on the basis of surveys and estimates.

The report said that during the first wave from March 2020 to February 2021, India could not properly anticipate the tragedy. This failure caused a terrible second wave. According to this, the first wave was more deadly than was believed. About two million people would have died in the first wave itself.
